1st Ethiopian Minimally Invasive Surgery Conference

Safe Approach, Safe Surgery: Expanding Minimally Invasive Services in Ethiopia for Better Health Outcomes

April 2026

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

About Us

MIS Africa was founded by a group of close friends, led by surgeons, united by a shared vision to improve access to minimally invasive surgery (MIS) services in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with an initial focus on Ethiopia. Recognizing the limited availability of structured MIS training programs and the significant unmet need for such services in LMICs, MIS Africa is committed to advancing and expanding MIS through structured training and capacity building.

Our Mission is to elevate healthcare quality by advancing and expanding minimally invasive surgery (MIS) services in LMICs, while promoting evidence-based practices through education, training, and research.

To date, MIS Africa has supported and equipped several hospitals and has trained more than 100 surgeons, surgical residents, operating room nurses, and biomedical engineers, contributing to sustainable MIS services and improved patient care. Building on this foundation, the organization is currently expanding its activities beyond Ethiopia to other African countries.
